The PJ Patterson Institute for Africa Caribbean Advocacy recently learnt of the passing of retired Ambassador Curtis Ward, an Associate of the Institute.
Ambassador Ward served Jamaica as Ambassador to the United Nations, with responsibility for the Security Council, and as an adviser to the late, esteemed Secretary-General Kofi Annan. His expertise, knowledge and acute understanding of diplomatic affairs, international security matters and global geopolitics were widely regarded as exceptional. An attorney-at-law by profession, he was also a warm, kind and distinguished gentleman from Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, Jamaica.
Ambassador Ward further distinguished himself as a prolific writer. He created his own blog, The Ward Post, and was a regular contributor to national newspapers, writing on international security, global affairs, diplomacy and other issues of global importance. He was consistently constructive and encouraging in his support of the Institute and will be deeply missed.
The Institute extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife, Sonia, his family and friends, the diplomatic community, the people of Jamaica and all who benefited from the outstanding life and service of Ambassador Curtis Ward.
