
Recently the Elsa Leo- Rhynie Hall, UWI, Mona Campus presented the Tower Award to The Most Honourable PJ Patterson for his distinguished decades of service to Jamaica, the Caribbean, and the African Diaspora.
The award was presented to The Statesman-in-Residence on a courtesy visit by the Hall Chairperson, Ms Deidrie Wadsworth and the Off-Campus Representative, Mr. Connor England.
The award is given to graduates of the UWI who have served the nation and or the Caribbean community with integrity and excellence.
The Most Honourable PJ Patterson was recognized for his instrumental leadership in the social, infrastructural and economic development of Jamaica, as the country’s sixth Prime Minister for fourteen consecutive years. Additionally, for his long service as a Caribbean Statesman instrumental in the formation of the principal organization of regional integration, CARICOM and the CSME; for his role in the Lome Convention of 1975 as Chairman of the African-Caribbean Pacific/ European Economic Community Ministerial Conference and his long service to the Caribbean, Africa and The UWI where he now serves as The Statesman- in-Residence of The PJ Patterson Institute for Africa Caribbean Advocacy.
